My Soda Challenge

As much soda as I drink, you’d think it was a major food group!  Seriously, I start with breakfast and suck down soda until bedtime, sometimes 2 or 3 bottles a day (12 oz. bottles, not 2 liters!)  Still, that’s a lot.  A lot of sugar, a lot of calories.  And drinking soda makes me want unhealthy snacks to go with it, like chips or chocolate.

It’s obvious I need to cut WAY back on soda to get anywhere with losing weight.   I cut back but then let it creep back, until I’m back to drinking several bottles a day.  My challenge to myself today is to drink NO soda today!  Not one drop.  Instead I will drink water, which already makes me feel depressed, ha ha.  Water is not nearly as attractive an option as a cold, fizzy soda, but I guess if losing weight and changing habits was easy, I wouldn’t be here for support in doing it, right?

So, one whole day of no soda…I will report back later to let you know how I did!

Hey girlie, get sparkling water and put some fruit or a slice of lemon or lime into it to give it some flavor. That may help a little bit with the fizzy drinks craving.

Girl, this can be done!! I used to drink a 12 pack of can sodas within 24 hours..I kid you not!! Then I found a diet substitute and now only drink one of those occassionally…when I started..I was drinking lots of it every day. Slowly, got the numbers of them to go down. Yes, water isnt that great when you first start out…feels like its just plain…but, after a while..you crave it like anything else lol. Lots of water helps the weight loss too! So, good luck today girl!! You can do it!! Debbie

I had trouble giving up soda, and occasionally I will have a diet soda, but I weaned myself off by drinking sparkling water, and occasionally adding a little squash/crystal light.

I know that water is an important part of the diet, and yet I still don’t glug it down like some people, but I am doing my 8 x 8oz glasses every day, and more if I can.

If I can give up soda, anyone can. I drank far too much of it, but of the diet variety which is full of preservatives and artificial flavourings, colourings, sweeteners, etc so not good at all.

I know how you feel I used to be addicted to coca cola. I just got rid of it completley and drink only water, and I’ve found now soda doesn’t even taste that good anymore ( its too sweet) You just have to make a commitment to cut it out of your diet and eventually it becomes easy.

I have tried reducing soda, but that doesn’t seem to work for me. It’s an all or nothing thing for me. One just leads to cravings for more! Thanks, everyone, for your ideas!

I have the soda addiction too. I am going to do your soda challenge today too

I too gave up a soda addiction. I was really bad with it, where that was all I would consume each day as a liquid sometimes! I was always naive thinking that just because it was diet it was okay. It’s not. Well, I’m here to say that you really can do this! Just take it one day at a time. Your taste buds will eventually change and you will come to love water…that’s what happened to me anyway. Good luck and hang in there! :D

Your taste buds will eventually change and you will come to love water, and it’s likely that you will end up not even liking soda because it’s so dang sweet…that’s what happened to me anyway. Good luck and hang in there! :D

you can do it, you already made a good point… you can’t cut down, it’s all or nothing, so you know not to “reward” yourself with a small portion because it will set off the cycle again… cold turkey, don’t look back!

I promised I’d report back, so here I am! I did much better than yesterday but did have some soda. The good news: it wasn’t much, I didn’t finish it, and I drank more water today than usual, so I still took a few steps forward!
